High tensile barbed wire, at volume

Barbed wire machines built for high volume production.

UMC builds patented barbed wire machines that run at speeds up to 400 barbs per minute, with electronic pitch, variable barb length, and rolls up to one mile. Two and four point barbs are produced on the same machine, each adjusted individually to ASTM 121.

Choose the BLM-3000 Multi Twist for the flexibility to run two barb styles on one machine, or the BLR-4000 Reverse Twist for a dedicated, compact high tensile line.

Both platforms run at speeds up to 400 barbs per minute with continuous and reverse twist, fully automated electronic pitch, and rolls of one mile or less. Variable barb length and twist rate, in two and four point, are adjusted individually to ASTM 121.

Both run on precision servo drives rather than the cams, gearboxes and linkages of older machines, so there are fewer wear points, less maintenance and more time in production. Barb length and spacing are set on the screen, not changed by hand on the floor.

Start with one tooling set and add the second when your needs grow, without investing in a new machine.

Dedicated reverse twist · built for volume

Barb Lokk BLR-4000

Dedicated high tensile barbed wire production at volume.

The BLR-4000 is a dedicated high tensile reverse twist barbed wire machine, engineered for consistent, high speed production at 400 barbs per minute. Its compact, efficient design makes the most of factory floor space, which suits high volume manufacturing.

Key capabilities
  • Speeds up to 400 barbs per minute, high tensile reverse twist.
  • Servo driven motion in place of mechanical cams and gearboxes, for fewer wear points and lower maintenance.
  • Digitally controlled rotary cutter and pitch change for precise, repeatable barb spacing.
  • Compact vertical layout with forklift pockets on all sides, easy to move and quick to drop into automated lines.
  • Each barb point adjusted individually to ASTM 121, two and four point.
  • Rockwell Automation, integrated PLC safety, historical production data and 3D models on the HMI.

Barb Lokk BLM-3000 — multi-twist barbed wire machine running two styles on one platform
Two barb styles, one machine

Barb Lokk BLM-3000

A barbed wire making machine that runs two styles on one platform.

The patented BLM-3000 is the only machine in the world that produces two different barbed wire styles on a single platform. It runs both High Tensile Reverse Twist and Iowa style barbed wire, and switches between them with minimal downtime. Start with one tooling set and add the second when your needs grow, without investing in a new machine.

Key capabilities
  • Speeds up to 400 barbs per minute, continuous and reverse twist.
  • Fully automated, electronic pitch, rolls of one mile or less.
  • Variable barb length and twist rate, two and four point, adjusted to ASTM 121.
  • Vertical manufacturing with integrated layering for ergonomic roll handling.
  • Rockwell Automation, integrated PLC safety, live fault and production reporting to any device.

Which machine

One decision: flexibility, or a dedicated line.

BLM-3000
Choose for flexibility

Run two barb styles, High Tensile Reverse Twist and Iowa, on one platform. Best when your product mix changes and you want one machine to cover it.

Frequently Asked Questions

BLR-4000 & BLM-3000

What is the BLR-4000 barbed wire machine? +

The BLR-4000 is our dedicated high tensile reverse twist barbed wire machine, built for consistent, high-speed production in a compact footprint. It runs one barb style rather than switching between styles, which suits manufacturers running high volume on a single product line.

How fast does the BLR-4000 run and what roll sizes does it produce? +

It runs at up to 400 barbs per minute. Roll length ranges from a minimum of 150 ft (50 m) up to 1,000 m (3,281 ft), with a maximum roll diameter of 380 mm (15 inches), maximum roll height of 245 mm (10 inches), and maximum roll weight of 100 kg (220 lbs).

What wire gauges and barb specifications does the BLR-4000 handle? +

Both line wire and barb wire gauge run from 14 to 15.5, with barb pitch adjustable at 3, 4, 5 or 6 inches. It runs on 380 to 480 VAC three phase power at 30 KW (45 to 55 amps).

How much floor space does the BLR-4000 need? +

It uses a compact vertical layout with forklift pockets on all sides for easy relocation. It doesn't require pneumatics, which simplifies site setup compared with older, larger reverse twist machines that need separate compressed air infrastructure.

Can the BLR-4000 be customised and is remote support available? +

Yes. Options include automated pitch control, automated roll handling, infeed and outfeed conveyors, individual barb vision inspection, customisable backframe layout and guarding, upstream/downstream robot palletising, custom spool sizing, and remote support over a local internet connection.

What is the BLM-3000 and how is it different from the BLR-4000? +

The BLM-3000 is the only machine in the world that produces two different barbed wire styles on one platform: High Tensile Reverse Twist and Iowa-style Continuous Twist. The BLR-4000, by comparison, is a dedicated single style line. The BLM-3000 suits manufacturers whose product mix changes and who want one machine to cover both styles rather than running two machines.

Can the BLM-3000 switch styles without buying a second machine? +

Yes. It can be purchased with one tooling set to start, then a second tooling set can be added later when demand grows, without needing to invest in a new machine.

How fast does the BLM-3000 run and what roll sizes does it produce? +

Both twist styles run at up to 400 barbs per minute. Roll length runs from a minimum of 150 ft (50 m) up to 1 mile (1,600 m), with a maximum roll diameter of 600 mm (23.6 inches) and maximum roll weight of 300 kg (661 lbs).

Does wire gauge differ between the two barb styles on the BLM-3000? +

Yes. Continuous Twist (Iowa-style) runs a 12.5 to 14 gauge for both line and barb wire, while Reverse Twist runs a finer 14 to 15.5 gauge. Barb pitch is adjustable at 3, 4, 5 or 6 inches for both styles.

Can the BLM-3000 be customised for specific production needs? +

Yes, with the same option set as the BLR-4000: automated pitch control, automated roll handling, infeed and outfeed conveyors, individual barb vision inspection, customisable backframe layout and guarding, upstream/downstream robot palletising, and custom spool sizing.
